The world’s largest lock (Kieldrecht lock) was opened by the Port of Antwerp earlier this month. The lock, which is 500 meters long, 68 meters wide and 17.8 meters deep, is composed of 22,000 tonnes of steel. It was designed to handle the passage of the new larger ships in use. The lock will serve as a channel between the ports tidal dock, where container vessels arrive, and the docks on the left bank of the Scheldt in Antwerp.
