Originally scheduled to begin construction in May of 2014, work on the Nicaraguan Canal has been delayed due to feasibility studies. There are environmental concerns and they need to select a precise route. The goal is to connect the Caribbean to the Pacific Ocean and serve as an alternate route to the Panama Canal.
